We’re inundated with health nutrition resources and we all know a combination of balanced diet which includes portion control, healthy foods and regular exercise all working together will help anyone lose weight – if you stick to it.

But, why is it so hard, why don’t we do it...

Getting Unstuck

People often get unstuck; they lose faith, lose focus or self sabotage when they are trying to lose weight. When reading endless health nutrition resources the biggest thing to remember in the quest to lose weight a person is not undertaking a temporary diet – it’s a lifestyle.

Having a clear goal of how much weight you need to lose is important. For example, you might want to lose five pounds or fifty pounds.  Write the number down – but remember the goal itself isn’t enough to give you motivation to get the weight off and keep it off.

Understand Your Reason To Lose Weight

The most deep inside yourself and identify the reason why you (not anyone else) want to lose weight. This might be a difficult question to answer because no magazines or heath nutrition resources will tell you the reason why you want to lose weight.

You must do some deep soul searching and be completely honest with yourself so you can find the reason to focus you to shed the pounds, change your life and habits to lose weight. The answer must come from within. Your weight loss reasons could be:

  • Do you want to regain confidence?
  • Do you want to get back into that skinny dress?
  • Do you have a special occasion or a reunion in the future?
  • Do you want to feel sexy again for your partner?
  • Do you need to lose weight for health reasons?
  • Do you want to start dating or forming intimate relationships and feel self-conscious about your body?
  • Do you want to be able to run around with your children?

The underlying weight loss reason is important as it will give you the motivation to stay focused. It will be the driver stopping you from having the extra portion of food or getting up thirty minutes early each morning to start an exercise program.

Picture The Worst Case Scenario

Your mind is a powerful tool and it will help you to visualize the worst case scenario of what your life will be like if you don’t shed the pounds. Worst case scenarios include:

  • You might turn up to your high school reunion and no one will recognise you.
  • You might be single forever because no one will be attracted to you when you’re overweight.
  • You’ll have to undergo dialysis treatments.
  • You’ll have to inject yourself with insulin every day.
  • You won’t fit into your wedding dress on your wedding day.  

Consider the worst possible scenarios or alternatives - there is no better motivation to help you lose weight. Everyday look at these worst case scenarios it every day to refocus on your eating plan and whether you should get up in the morning to exercise. Use all the health nutrition resources at your disposal to reach your goal.

Getting motivated to lose weight and change your life is difficult. Once you start creating new habits to lose weight it will be much easier for you to stay on track – because it will be your new way of life. You will get there! Good luck!
