Tomato Nutrition - Use The “Love Apple” To Lose Weight

Tomato nutrition shouts praises for this red fruit (which we commonly use as a vegetable). The France use the term “pomme d’amour” when referring to a tomato which is translated to “love apple”. Interestingly, the nutritional heath benefit for one tomato is much better than for one apple.

Regardless of the name, the tomato is a popular food which comes in thousands of different shapes and sizes. If you’re trying to say good-bye to belly fat in a calorie controlled manner then consider the fact that most curries, pastas and casseroles are cooked in either a tomato or cream base – the tomato option is usually much lower in calories.

Nutritional Facts

Tomatoes are low in calories with a mere 18 calories per 100 grams. Tomato nutrition also states tomatoes are low in fat and cholesterol which makes tomatoes perfect for people trying to control their cholesterol levels!

Also, tomatoes are packed with antioxidants, including lycopene and zea-xanthin. The redder tomatoes are, the more lycopene which is a unique phytochemical found in tomatoes. Studies have shown lycopene reduces the risk of skin damage from ultra violet (UV) rays and helps offer protection against skin cancer.

The tomato is also filled with compounds of disease fighting zea-xanthin which help the eyes filter harmful ultra-violet rays. This compound helps protect the elderly in their aging process with eye related macular diseases. Also, tomatoes contain potassium which is important to help control the heart rate and blood pressure.

Introduce Tomatoes In Your Cooking

Roaming the aisles of the supermarket you probably have noticed a few varieties of tomatoes which exist. “Globe or Slicing” tomatoes are the typical round tomatoes that used in most restaurants. There is the common ‘beefsteak’ tomato which is your typical large tomato commonly used in sandwiches.

If you’re looking to add variety into your cooking then try the delicious campari tomatoes which are like burst of flavor if added to any dish or salad. Or, include yellow tomatoes in your cooking or salads. There are literally hundreds of recipes on the internet with tomato based alternatives for main meals.

Restaurant Tips

As the goodness of tomato nutrition is widely appreciated and tomatoes are generally versatile, you will find tomato based options when you look at restaurant menus. Going to restaurants and maintaining weight or losing weight is problematic. But, if you are calorie counting, remember calorie counting can apply to the week, so you can save calories from the day before and reduce your calorie intake the day after your restaurant experience.

But, if you pick the wrong meal you might blow any chance you have at controlling your daily and weekly calorie allowance. Once you feel like you can’t catch up – you might give up. Don’t! Get organised! If you end up going to a restaurant sporadically then remember the top tip – tomato bases are better than cream!

For Indian cuisine rogan josh and madras curries are both made of tomatoes...for Italian cuisine try tomato based stews, or margarita pizzas. To lose belly fat successfully and live life, if you have time to check out the restaurant menu beforehand, look at the dishes on the menu and if possible call them beforehand and get the calorie content. This will help you consider what to order and how much to leave on your plate. You can fight the war against fat!
