What is Protein?

Protein diets essentially involve extreme protein intake which is well above the recommended daily allowance. Protein is the source of fuel for the human body which helps build body tissue. When talking about nutrition, proteins are essentially made up of amino acids. 

There are three categories of amino acids including, essential amino acids, non-essential amino acids and conditional amino acids. The essential amino acids can only be found in food such as meat, fish and eggs. Plant sources which come from soy nutrition, as well as legumes, pulses, nuts and seeds are also proteins.

How Much Protein Should You Have?

With high obesity levels in America there is a wave of people trying high protein diets and statistics show the average American eats over twice the amount of protein needed per day. Having enough protein in the diet doesn't seem to be the problem; it’s the quantity which is more problematic. Experts say healthy adults should have between 50-175 g of protein per day.

Consider when you order a steak at a restaurant. It’s probably much bigger than your daily allowance – yet people wonder why they can’t lose weight. Not only are large portions of protein the norm in society, but eating too much protein is said to contribute to osteoporosis as well as kidney disease. Also, health experts believe that high protein diets increase the risk of cancer and liver problems.

However, soy research has found plant nutrition actually enhances calcium retention in the body. This research says replacing animal proteins with vegetable proteins it is possible to overcome the pitfalls of the high protein diet.

Everything in Moderation

Losing belly fat and fitting into that skinny pair of jeans or trousers will not happen overnight. Keeping the weight off once you've lost it is almost harder – but it is worth it.

High protein diets and carbohydrate free diets seem to work for many people, but incorporating the tips from soy nutrition research might help with overall health benefits. Understanding the body’s reaction to specific foods and opening your mind up to trying new food will help you to achieve your weight loss goals. But, the key to good health is balance and moderation.
