Health Implications

People are considered obese if they have a body mass index (BMI) of typically above 35, or a BMI of 40 if they have health problems or if they are one hundred pounds over their ideal weight. There are many serious side effects of obesity and health risks if you are classified obese.

Heart disease and congestive heart failure are the classic health risks due to an obese person carrying extra body mass. The extent of the body mass makes a persons heart work harder than it has to, leading to exhaustion. Don’t forget that once a person has heart disease, there is no turning back, surgeries and tablets can help, but there will always be the risk of another heart attack.

Another health related problem is high blood cholesterol, which can lead to gallstones. Also there are health issues such as type 2 diabetes, kidney failure and mobility difficulties.

Head Space Of Obese People

It goes without saying that not only is person’s health affected but there are also mental side effects of obesity. Obese people suffer from anxiety in social situations and as mobility becomes impaired this may lead to depression (mild or clinical).

Depression is without a doubt influenced by the obese person fitting in with social groups and the constant ridicule and rejection, whether it is romantic, career focused or simply a friendship group. Sadly, obese people have lower intimate relationships with people than healthy people do.

Fight Obesity

You can fight your war against your waistline and tackle the side effects of obesity! But, be responsible when constructing a weight reduction program. Remember the parable of the hare and the tortoise, the tortoise takes slow and steady steps but ultimately wins the race.

When comparing this to obesity a crash diet will not fix the problem. Research has proven that going on extreme diet plans often leads to unsustainable eating and then the person ends up weighing more than they did before they started the diet.

Facing obesity is difficult and you will need support groups because you’re ultimately learning how to change and take control of your life. It’s not too late to act now!
